History

Green House Seed Company traces its roots to the 1980s when founder Arjan Roskam began collecting exotic landrace seeds during travels in Thailand, Nepal, and Southeast Asia. In 1992 he opened the first Green House coffeeshop in Amsterdam. In 1994 he co-founded the seed company with breeder Shantibaba (Scott Blakey), creating White Widow — the 1995 Cannabis Cup winner that made them internationally famous overnight. After Shantibaba's departure in 1998, Arjan expanded the company into a full cannabis empire: multiple Amsterdam coffeeshops, the Strain Hunters documentary series, the Green House Feeding nutrients line, and global seed distribution. Super Silver Haze's unprecedented three consecutive Cannabis Cup wins (1997-1999) cemented GHSC as the dominant force in cannabis genetics through the late 1990s and 2000s.
